Mayer Brown partner Dario Frommer appointed to the California Transportation Commission

14 January 2008 - Dario Frommer, a partner in the Los Angeles office of international law firm Mayer Brown, said today he was honored to be able to continue to serve the people of California as a member of the California Transportation Commission. His appointment was announced last Friday by the Speaker of the California State Assembly, Fabian Núñez.

Mr. Frommer is one of 13 members of the California Transportation Commission who advises and assists the Secretary of Business, Transportation and Housing Agency and the Legislature in formulating and evaluation transportation programs in the state. The Commission is responsible for the programming and allocating of funds for the construction of highway, passenger rail and transit improvements throughout California, and is also an active participant in the initiation and development of State and Federal legislation that seeks to secure financial stability for the State's transportation needs. Mr. Frommer's term is effective immediately and ends on January 1, 2012.

"The selection of Dario to serve on this Commission is evidence of the respect he has earned in both the public and private sectors," said James D. Holzhauer, Mayer Brown Chairman. "Since joining the firm in 2006, he has been an invaluable resource to both the firm and clients on many important issues including campaign and election law, health care policy, land use and tax reform. We are confident the people of California will continue to benefit from his knowledge and experience."

Mr. Frommer, 44, served as majority leader of the California State Assembly from 2000 - 2006, were he was responsible for reaching agreements on legislative and budgetary issues, and working with diverse interests and stakeholders to find innovative solutions to pressing issues. His legislative accomplishments include the creation of California's Urban Parks program, which put $130 million into new neighborhood parks and the preservation of urban open spaces. Mr. Frommer also chaired the Committees on Rail Safety and Small Business and has extensive experience on Los Angeles and statewide transportation issues.
